Hi There!
My name is Genevieve, owner of Gen’s Kreations!
I’d love to share with you more about myself and how Gen’s Kreations came to be.
At 3 years old, my mom would make the most delicious banana bread and every time I saw her ready to bake in the kitchen, I jumped up onto the kitchen island stool, brought my plastic appliances up with me, and asked her to put me the same ingredients that she was using into my small pretend mixing bowl.
I’d follow the same moves she did. Everything from cracking the eggs, to mashing the bananas and then mixing and pouring over.
By 5 years old, I was determined to make bundt cakes and cupcakes on my own from the ready-made cake boxes.
Every Saturday would be my baking day, as I prepared a dessert to take with me to our local church the next morning.
Sometimes it was cake, but most often it was cupcakes!
Because my kitchen safety and baking skills were getting better, I decided to watch more and more baking and YouTube videos to learn how to decorate cupcakes differently each week, that either match the holiday, season or event for them to enjoy Sunday morning!
Sunflowers, mummies, Christmas wreaths, rosettes… you name it.
The more I practiced, the more creative I found myself becoming.
And before I knew it, at 7 years old, I was trying eclairs, cream puffs, cinnamon rolls, cookies… literally anything my family was craving or that I came across on YouTube!!
When I was between 7-8 years old, I came across a video of a pastry chef making macarons and heard how they described it as being “the diva cookie and hardest to make,” and knew I had to try it!
The first time I made it I was home with my dad and we didn’t have any food coloring at the time, so I made them white.
My second try, my dad actually squeezed out the juice from some raspberries that we had and we used that to color my macarons!
It took me almost a year to see different macaron recipes and eventually make my own
that I felt I was the perfect version of French Macarons!
During the 2020 pandemic, being home was so much fun for me and my family! I had a chance to bake ALL day and try so many new desserts. And that’s when I perfected my French Macaron recipe!
In September 2020, my aunt was having a gathering with some friends at her house and I wanted to surprise them with some sweet treats. So I made some macarons and took them over. After the gathering, my aunt called to tell me that all of her friends wanted to make orders for macarons! When she told them that I didn’t actually have a business and was just baking for fun, they gave her the idea to ask my mom if I could please start a business because those were the best macarons they’ve ever had.
And here we are.
October 1st, 2020 Gen’s Kreations started taking orders!
Since then we’ve sold macarons at a chic coffee shop in Birmingham, made sweet memories with numerous baptisms and communions and have brought joy to hundreds of people in the Metro-Detroit area in various settings.
My parents always taught us the importance of giving back.
So 10% of every order goes to charity and I sometimes sell at my local church as well and give them the proceeds to help with the many amazing projects they have going on for our local community!
It’s the little things, right?
The only thing I love more than the gift of baking is how happy people are when they eat my desserts!
That’s honestly the best part for me.
Especially little kids! I hope I can inspire them to be creative in the kitchen and find love working with food as I do!
Thanks for taking the time to read my story and how Gen’s Kreations came to be!
There’s so much to come in the future, still, and I hope you’ll join me for the awesome adventure!
And thank you so so much for your support and well wishes.
It really means the world to me.
-Gen
